DEAN HENDERSON returned to Manchester United’s Carrington training base ready to fight David De Gea for the No1 shirt.
The 23-year-old English stopper is back at the Red Devils after his impressive two-year loan stint at Sheffield United expired this summer.
Henderson confirmed he will not be heading back to Bramall Lane with plans to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice between the sticks.
He rocked into training on Thursday morning meaning business as SunSport exclusively revealed United are set to reward him with a new bumper pay packet.
Henderson is expected to pen a mega four-year deal worth £100,000-a-week to emphasise his importance in the side.
He only signed a contract worth £60,000-a-week last year but his form for the Blades has urged United chiefs to pull out the stops to secure his future.
His new deal will also come with the option of a further 12 months, which can be activated at any time.
It leaves serious question marks over De Gea’s future at Old Trafford following another disappointing campaign.
The Spain international was involved in a string of high-profile errors and Solskjaer appears to be losing patience with him.
Even if he wanted to sell De Gea, the keeper’s staggering £350,000-a-week wages are likely to prove a stumbling block in negotiations.
Henderson has no plans to play second fiddle to De Gea especially with the postponed Euros on the horizon.
On Wednesday he penned a farewell letter to Sheffield United fans as he looks to start a “new chapter in his career.”
He said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Sheffield United for the last two years.
“Winning promotion to the Premier League with my brothers and having the season we had this season is something I’ll never forget.
“I would like to thank the manager, my team-mates, backroom staff and, of course, the fans, who have been unbelievable to me.
“I will look back at the last two years as an important chapter in my career.
“I’m grateful to have had a chance to learn with such a class group of lads. I can’t wait for the next chapter.”
