Hearts have announced a contract extension has been signed by Michael Smith.
For the next 18 months, the Tynecastle defender will continue to wear the maroon jersey since agreeing a deal until 2022.
With 14 caps for Northern Ireland, Smith is one of Robbie Neilson’s squad’s most experienced players. Since leaving Peterborough United in 2017, he joined Hearts.
The 32-year-old has made 121 appearances for Hearts to date, scoring 5 goals.
“Robbie Neilson said, speaking to the Hearts website, “I am pleased Michael has agreed to an extension of the deal.
For us, Michael is a very important player and also a top player. He has a wealth of experience and is a world-class athlete, which is fantastic for the club.
“He’s been a fixture since his time at Hearts and I’ve really enjoyed working with him since I’ve been here and I know he’s a player that the younger players look up to as well.”
