Hakkinen believes Max Verstappen possesses a “key” trait that will help him defeat Lewis Hamilton in the title fight.

This season, the Dutch driver is posing a serious threat to Hamilton.

Mika Hakkinen, a two-time Formula One world champion, feels Max Verstappen has what it takes to win the Drivers’ Championship in 2021. Verstappen might beat Lewis Hamilton to the title this season, according to the former driver, who has identified a “key” quality.

Verstappen has had an excellent start to the 2021 season, winning three of the first seven races.

By winning the Monaco Grand Prix in May, the 23-year-old became the World Championship leader for the first time in his brief career.

In last weekend’s French Grand Prix, he extended his advantage over Hamilton to 12 points, winning victory by overtaking the Brit late in the race.

During his reign in Formula One, Hamilton has encountered little competition, winning the last four World Drivers’ Championships.

Verstappen, on the other hand, offers a serious danger to Hakkinen’s reign as world champion, and the Finn feels he can win this year.

In his Unibet blog, Hakkinen revealed, “Max [Verstappen] was angry to lose the lead at the start of the race.”

“However, I think the manner he cooled down and concentrated on executing the solid two-stop approach was really outstanding.

“As a driver, he has evolved, and he now understands what it takes to win consistently. This is the key to a World Championship victory.

“This year, Red Bull has won four Grands Prix, while Mercedes has won three. Max should have won at least one more in reality.

“While the Mercedes is still a very competitive race car, Red Bull is consistently delivering excellent, consistent results across a variety of tracks.”

Over the next two weeks, as the Formula One series visits Austria, Verstappen will have the opportunity to increase his lead over Hamilton even more.

The Styrian Grand Prix – the Red Bull Ring – takes place this Sunday, ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix next week.

Hamilton, on the other hand, will be confident heading into the Red Bull Ring’s second race.

In its first year, in 2020, the 36-year-old was victorious, with Verstappen placing third.

However, the dynamics have changed, and the Dutchman will be confident in his ability to outperform Hamilton once more.

Since 2016, when his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg won the World Drivers’ Championship, Hamilton hasn’t finished second.

The arrival of Verstappen has thrown a wrench in the gears. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
