Giroud claims it was more difficult to leave Chelsea than it was to leave Arsenal because he was ‘frustrated’ with the Blues’ past few months.
OLIVIER GIROUD has expressed his dissatisfaction with his departure from Chelsea, claiming that it was ‘harder’ than leaving Arsenal.
The 35-year-old French international striker departed Arsenal in January 2018 to join Stamford Bridge across London.
Giroud went on to have a wonderful career in West London, scoring 39 goals in 119 appearances and assisting on the club’s Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup victories.
Following the additions of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, the veteran’s playing time was severely limited, and Thomas Tuchel eventually sold him to AC Milan for £3.6 million during the summer.
Despite testing positive for coronavirus and then being injured, Giroud has had a good start at the San Siro, scoring two goals in his first two games.
He has, however, spoken to talkSPORT about how painful it was to leave Chelsea – arguably more difficult than leaving Arsenal, despite spending six years at the Emirates.
“I spent three and a half seasons there [at Chelsea],” Giroud added.
“I had a wonderful experience at Arsenal, but I can say even more about my time at Chelsea since I won the big titles.”
“It was difficult emotionally to leave Montpellier and Arsenal, but it was considerably more difficult [at Chelsea]since I hadn’t played in the last three months, so it was evidence for me to leave and seek a new challenge.”
“I was a little unhappy to not play for the last three months because I contributed well to the Champions League win by ending as the team’s top scorer,” he continued.
“However, what can I say?” We had such a tremendous season, and I am overjoyed to have won the FA Cup, Europa League, and Champions League. I scored a few of key goals.
“Leaving Chelsea and the Premier League was difficult, but in the end, I believe it was the best option for me.”
During his career at Arsenal, Giroud won the FA Cup three times and scored 73 goals in 180 Premier League matches.
