From Barcelona legend Victor Valdes to a YouTube vlogger and a gardener, Man Utd’s goalkeeping nearly guys.

Manchester United’s renowned No. 1 jersey has been worn by some of the best goalkeepers in football history.

At Old Trafford, Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichal were two of the best goalkeepers in the world.

However, for every David De Gea, there is an underappreciated backup.

Sergio Romero, De Gea’s understudy, stated that he spent the final year of his six-year stay at United training alone, with no first-team appearances.

The potential Swiss international joined United’s junior ranks in 2012.

Pereira, though, would fall victim to the cycle of loan periods that can often damage a budding career after three years with the minor squads.

Pereira rented his services from the Red Devils six times in six years before being one of the eight players released in the recent summer window.

Although the 25-year-old only made three senior appearances for United, he did start a Premier League match against Crystal Palace in 2017.

Pereira signed a one-year contract with RKC Waalwijk in the Dutch first division in June 2021, with the option to extend for another year.

Valdes has every right to expect his name to be near the top of any list of all-time goalkeepers.

The Spaniard won it all with Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, but he had a less illustrious United career.

Valdes was given the opportunity to recover a knee injury before joining the Red Devils in 2014-15, but he only made two Premier League appearances before falling out with manager Louis van Gaal.

Following reports that he refused to play for the reserves, he was loaned out to Standard Liege in January 2016, followed by a permanent move to Middlesbrough.

Valdes left professional football in January 2018 after a six-month period without a team.

He tried management but has been unemployed since Horta fired him in January 2021.

Lindegaard was regarded as the heir to United’s legendary Dane Schmeichel, but at Old Trafford, he was never more than a backup.

The Denmark international was bought in late 2010 as Sir Alex Ferguson began to plan for the post-Van der Sar future. He started with the usual handful of cup games.

When David De Gea replaced Van der Sar in June 2011, Lindegaard’s first-team chances dwindled as a result of the Spaniard’s world-record arrival.
