After leaving her French Open match in a wheelchair, KIKI Bertens has been accused by her opponent Sara Errani of faking an injury.
Fifth seed Bertens and qualifier Errani, Roland Garros’ former finalist, battled a wild game before the Dutchwoman finally won 7-6 (5) 3-6 9-7 after three hours and 11 minutes.
There were 24 service breaks and before taking her third chance and dropping to the court with full-body cramps, Bertens fended off a match point.
Early on, by grabbing her leg, Errani, who had made fun of the hardships of her opponent, left the court without noticing the battered Bertens and did not hold back in her press conference.
“The Italian said, “When anyone makes fun of you, I don’t like it. She played a great game, but I don’t like the situation. She’s hurt for an hour, then she runs like never before. I don’t like that. I don’t like that.
She leaves the court on a chair, and in the locker room, in the restaurant, she is now fine. These stuff I don’t want.
“Then people say to me afterwards that I’m an unfair person. It’s funny for me these things. I don’t think she had a good attitude on the court. I didn’t like that.”
Bertens laughed at the comments from Errani, saying, “She can say whatever she feels like, but maybe I should take more acting classes or pursue a career in that field. I’m not sure what she thinks, but no, on the court, I didn’t feel really good.”
Since I also know her frustrations, I don’t want to take it too personally. I think she’s also disappointed with herself that she wasn’t able to finish this match.
