STUART MCCALL insists 55 is the only number being talked about in Glasgow this season as Rangers close in on the Premiership title.

Steven Gerrard’s side took another step towards the silverware with a 4-1 victory over Dundee United on Sunday as they maintained their unbeaten league run.

The Gers then saw Old Firm rivals Celtic suffer another embarrassing defeat as they were beaten by relegation threatened Ross County and Gerrard’s side could be crowned champions at Parkhead next month.

McCall savoured the glory days of nine-in-a-row at Ibrox and the Light Blues hero is delighted to see his former club closing in on their first league flag in a decade.

McCall told Sky Sports News: “It has just been outstanding, both in Europe and domestically. A 15th game [on Sunday]at home and a 15th consecutive victory and only conceded two goals in those 15 games at Ibrox.

“He has done an outstanding job alongside his backroom staff and the players deserve enormous credit.

“The work on the training ground has been hugely important.

“The other night in the European game it was Kent showing that bit of magic.

“They have got people that can go by people, that can destroy people.

“Aribo [on Sunday]was outstanding, Hagi when he comes on. It is just the options that they have middle to front.

“Dundee United, the first 25 minutes they started well and McGregor, as he has always been this season, was outstanding and made a couple of important saves. But overall, the dominance throughout the season has been fantastic.

“It will mean everything [to win the league]. The supporters have stood by the club through thick and thin for the last nine years.

“They have been down the divisions but they have backed them and that is the only sadness, really, that you don’t have an Ibrox rocking with 50,000 fans. But I am sure they will make the most of it when it comes.
