Former Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno has agreed to join Spanish side Villarreal on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old left back will sign a five-year contract with Villarreal on Wednesday.
Moreno, who has been capped four times by Spain, was a free agent after his contract expired at Anfield.
A statement on the club’s official website said: ‘Villarreal have reached an agreement with Alberto Moreno for him to be a Yellows player for the next five seasons.
‘With just his contract to be signed, the defender from Seville arrives at the Estadio de la Cerámica as a free agent, after completing his contract with Liverpool in June.’
The 27-year-old posted an emotional farewell on social media.
He said: ‘Life goes in cycles, and mine at my beloved Liverpool FC has drawn to an end.
‘Upon reaching this point, I would like to thank the entire Liverpool family; my dear teammates, with whom I have shared five marvellous years and who I will forever think of as family, and, of course, the owners, directors, coaching staff, doctors, physios, kitmen, and each and every person at the club.
‘Thank you for making me a better footballer and, above all, a better person; for helping me to fulfil one of my childhood dreams by winning the Champions League and, in doing so, become a small part of the history of this great club.’
Moreno made 141 appearances for the club, having signed from Sevilla for £12million in August 2014.
He was among the substitutes as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid last month to lift the trophy for a sixth time.
