Following a sobering 3-2 loss to fierce rivals Manchester United, Jamie Carragher identifies the three spots Liverpool MUST improve this summer.

Jamie Carragher has called on Liverpool to abandon the transfer philosophy they implemented last summer and go back to the strategies that worked for them in the past.

After investing an incredible £446 million to bolster their already championship-winning team, many predicted that Liverpool would win the Premier League again this season.

That amount exceeded Chelsea’s £434.5 million summer 2023 expenditure, becoming it the highest amount ever spent by a Premier League team in a single window.

Last summer, the Premier League’s three most expensive additions were Alexander Isak (£125 million), Florian Wirtz (£116.5 million), and Hugo Ekitike (£79 million), the latter two of which broke British records.

Despite all of that hope, the Reds will finish the season without a trophy because their title defence was destroyed months ago. After 35 games and a 3-2 loss to fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday, they are now in fourth place with 58 points, 18 points behind current table leaders Arsenal.

With players like Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah departing Anfield as free agents at the end of the season, Liverpool will need some reinvestment after losing 11 games this season.

Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to add players this summer in three crucial areas.

The Reds lost 3-2 at Manchester United on Sunday, their 11th Premier League setback of the season.

“Liverpool fans have been desperate for Liverpool to spend real big money, maybe like we’ve seen Man City or Chelsea in the past in one summer,” Carragher told Sky Sports in the post-match analysis of the team’s loss at Old Trafford. “Everyone was excited in the summer, but it didn’t feel Liverpool-like to me, or certainly over the last ten years and how they got to the top under Jurgen Klopp.”

“Go buy the best players for a tonne of money; it felt almost like Real Madrid.”

“I want Liverpool to start purchasing the right players for the right price and what they currently need.”

“”They don’t need to bring six or seven players in, because it’s more change, but there are three players that need to go right into the team for me.” “Replace Mo Salah with a right winger, a right-back, and a central midfielder then the players you bought last summer like Ekitike, Isak, and Wirtz become better players.” They won’t be able to do what they did last summer because they don’t have that kind of revenue.
