After a public altercation with the nephew of the Greek prime minister, Evangelos Marinakis, the millionaire owner of Nottingham Forest, was left battered and furious.
The altercation with his 47-year-old spring chicken rival, Grigoris Dimitriadis, left Marinakis, 58, with a shredded shirt and a bruise near his right eye.
The pair attended Sunday’s EuroLeague basketball final in Athens between Olympiacos and Real Madrid in the VIP area.
However, they faced off just hours after Forest’s Premier League season ended and before a ball had even been bounced.
From opposite sides of a barrier and security personnel, the two yelled at one another and exchanged angry words.
Kostas Karapapas, the vice president of Olympiacos FC, also seemed to be involved in the verbal altercation.
The altercation left Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, bruised.
During the interaction, the Greek billionaire appeared furious and had a torn shirt.
Marinakis was hauled away looking worse for wear as a result of the altercations that ensued, but the evening ended happily as Olympiacos, the team he owns, won 92-85.
It was a dramatic conclusion to Marinakis’s turbulent season.
He has had four different managers at Nottingham Forest: Vitor Pereira, Sean Dyche, Ange Postecoglou, and Nuno Espirito Santo.
He has seen the Midlands team fight to avoid relegation, ultimately placing 16th, and get to the Europa League semifinals, where they were defeated 4-1 on aggregate by Aston Villa.
He reduced his responsibilities at Forest in April since they may qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League.
Due to UEFA’s stringent regulations regarding multi-club ownership, Forest and Olympiacos would not be permitted to compete in the same tournament given his degree of influence.
In the end, Olympiacos placed second in the Greek Super League and qualified for the third qualifying round of the Champions League, whereas Forest would not play in Europe the following season.
