EXCLUSIVE: George Russell is thriving after receiving interest from Red Bull and Mercedes for the 2022 season.

GEORGE Russell chats confidentially about his Formula One future as the Williams driver considers a spot at Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton.

Despite ongoing speculation about George Russell’s future in Formula One, he believes he’s been “thriving” off the pressure of being one of the most sought-after talents on the circuit.

Both Red Bull and Mercedes have indicated interest in the Williams driver, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, with reports suggesting Russell may replace Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas at the seven-time world winners.

Russell has been questioned about his future since stepping in for Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix in the penultimate race of last season, when he came close to beating Bottas in his first race for the team.

Despite finishing ninth owing to a pitlane mistake and a puncture, the youthful Mercedes driver sent shockwaves through the field.

Russell told Express Sport exclusively, “I guess I thrive off that, to be honest, and you just have to turn into positivity, really.”

“In the end, all of the negotiations that are being discussed in the media are generally good, so that makes things a little easier.

“But I just tell myself to go out there and if I perform well, there’s nothing to be concerned about.”

“So I simply focus all of my energy and attention on doing a fantastic job on the track, and the rest will take care of itself, which may sound foolish, but that’s the game.

“It’s all about lap time, performance, and everything else is practically secondary.”

Hamilton’s future with Mercedes was secured two weeks ago during the Austrian Grand Prix, when his contract was extended by two years.

When the contract expires, the Britishman will be just shy of his 39th birthday.

Bottas, on the other hand, appears to be in limbo, revealing that contract talks have not yet begun, despite Toto Wolff’s suggestion that they would begin over the summer break.

Russell, meanwhile, appears to be waiting in the wings to replace Bottas and earn a spot on one of the most decorated teams in recent memory.

The 23-year-old, on the other hand, claimed he isn’t captivated by it.

“I’m not going to let that happen.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
