Emma Raducanu’s next Wimbledon opponent is entangled in a quarrel – “It’s horrible behavior,” she says.
In the fourth round at Wimbledon, Emma Raducanu will face Ajla Tomljanovic.
Emma Raducanu will face Ajla Tomljanovic, a tough opponent who was involved in an epic brawl with Jelena Ostapenko. Raducanu’s incredible Wimbledon run continued on Saturday as she defeated Sorana Cirstea in straight sets, eliciting tremendous applause and jubilation on Court One.
She will now have a full day of relaxation before facing Tomljanovic in the fourth round.
The 28-year-old defeated 2017 French Open champion Ostapenko in three sets.
However, tempers boiled in the third set when Ostapenko was accused of “lying” about an injury.
With Tomljanovic visibly enraged, Ostapenko requested an injury timeout in the third and decisive set.
“You do realize she’s lying, don’t you? During the match, Tomljanovic yelled aggressively at umpire Fiona Edwards, “We all know.”
“Can you also phone the supervisor and the physio? You can, of course, make your own decision and take your own position on the subject.
“She has the freedom to speak whatever she wants. Are you aware that she appeared fine for an hour and 30 minutes and then developed a “acute” injury?’
“I’m not sitting down,” she added.
After play restarted, Tomljanovic eventually won the match, and the Australian tennis star slammed her opponent for her “disgraceful behavior.”
“As far as she goes, look, I’ve seen cases where players utilize the medical timeout to get their opponent off, generally when they’re losing badly and the match is nearing the end,” she added.
“She has the right to claim that she was hurt. She wasn’t, in my opinion. There was nothing wrong with her during the contest, so why does she call it at 4-0?
“So I believe she was just trying to get me off my game for that reason. When you’re dealing with an injury, you might say, “Hey, can you contact the physio on the next changeover?” At least that’s how I approach it.
“You don’t go sit down when your opponent is going to serve to potentially go up 5-Love.
“All right, that’s one. From my perspective, there was nothing wrong with her in terms of the game. I’ve had a go at her. I’ve played a lot of different characters. When someone says, “Brinkwire Summary News,” I know what they mean.
