Emma Raducanu will spend Christmas at a hotel while she designs her path to victory at the Australian Open.

Emma Raducanu will spend Christmas away from her family in Melbourne as she prepares to compete in the 2022 Australian Open.

Emma Raducanu is willing to forego her Christmas turkey in order to compete for the Australian Open championship. The British teenager astonished the world when she won the US Open two weeks ago, becoming the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam in the open era – and she’s hoping to build on that success by winning the first Slam of next season, in Melbourne, in January.

However, athletes who compete in Melbourne will have to postpone their Christmas plans at home and spend it in a hotel room in Australia.

Qualifying for the tournament is set to begin over the holidays and conclude on Christmas Eve, and participants in the main draw will also be travelling out to Melbourne over the holidays, where they will be quarantined until the January build-up tournaments.

Raducanu, who fired coach Andrew Richardson on Friday, said: “I wasn’t aware – but whatever needs to be done in order for me to play the Australian Open, I’ll do.”

“It’s not even a mental battle for me.” I want to play in the Australian Open, so I’ll do whatever it takes.” The 18-year-old is still undecided about her future gig. She is entered in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, which begins on October 10, and could be handed a wild card for Indian Wells next month.

Despite her successes in New York and Wimbledon, Raducanu has yet to defeat a player in the WTA top ten.

“I want to defeat anyone in front of me,” she stated. I’m starving. I enjoy taking on new challenges. Beating a top ten player will be exceedingly difficult, but I’m up for the challenge.

“It’ll be a terrific learning experience even if I lose.”

“After one event, you can’t really say I’m a favorite – I’m still so new to everything,” Raducanu remarked of maybe being listed as one of the favorites for Melbourne.

In the meantime, Raducanu has fired mentor Richardson and said that she is looking for a new coach with more top-level experience to help her get through the next stage of “Brinkwire Summary News.”
