Emile Smith Rowe, Mikel Arteta’s agent, has issued a warning following the Arsenal deal: “He knows the repercussions.”
Emile Smith Rowe, an Arsenal midfielder, has committed his future to the club this week.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has cautioned Emile Smith Rowe that asking for and wearing the club’s No 10 jersey has “consequences.” On Thursday, Arsenal signed Smith Rowe to a new long-term contract. By signing the contract, the Gunners academy graduate put an end to uncertainty over his future.
Arsenal and Adidas have unveiled their official 2021/22 home jersey, which is based on the club’s motto of “Arsenal for everyone.”
Aston Villa had at least one bid for Smith Rowe knocked down by Arsenal earlier this summer, as they tried to test the Gunners’ resolve.
Smith Rowe will now wear the No. 10 jersey, which has previously been worn by legends like Dennis Bergkamp.
According to Arteta, the 20-year-old is aware of the responsibility and burden such number entails.
Arteta told Arsenal journalists, “He begged for [the No 10 shirt], therefore that shows you the ambition and desire.”
“I appreciate players who ask for more than they think they can handle, but if they think they can, don’t limit them.
“When he asked me and the club if he could acquire that [number], I said, ‘OK, let’s go.’
“We talked a little bit about it, and he understands the implications, but he feels ready to do it, and if he is, then I will be right behind him, trying to make him as comfortable and happy as possible to do what he wants to do.”
Smith Rowe made his debut for Arsenal in the middle of the season.

The offensive midfielder, according to Arteta, is exactly the type of player he wants in his side.
“I believe he completely deserves that new deal; he has earned every right to be in a situation where the club had to consider rewarding what he has done, and he has demonstrated his dedication to the football club,” he continued.
“So, when that friendship grows in the way it is, it sends a really strong and powerful message to everyone.
