Emile Heskey: Jurgen Klopp will be on radar of Barcelona and Real Madrid but won’t leave Liverpool

Emile Heskey is confident Jurgen Klopp would stay put at Liverpool even if Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid came calling for his services.

Klopp has built Liverpool into arguably the most formidable side in world football, guiding them to last season’s Champions League title and putting them on the brink of their first-ever Premier League crown this campaign.

His stock as manager continues to rise at a rapid rate and it will inevitably lead to interest from the world’s best in the future.

However, Heskey doesn’t believe Klopp – who recently signed a new contract at the club to stay until 2024 – would leave his Liverpool project anytime soon.

The former Reds striker told GentingBet: ‘There is always an option that Klopp could leave to join a club like Real Madrid or Barcelona.

‘But I don’t think that Klopp is finished with the project that he has started at Liverpool.

‘They are moving into a new training facility, they are really getting to where they feel that they can be when it comes to being recognised as an international brand as a football club.

‘Klopp has really put them on the map there. I think Klopp still feels like he has a lot to do. So, I don’t think the fans will be overly worried about Klopp leaving.’

Heskey, who scored 60 goals in 223 appearances for the Reds between 2000 and 2004, also added that he cannot see Liverpool making a move again for former player Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho has failed to fit in at Barcelona since his big-money move in January 2018, and has since struggled on loan at Bayern Munich, leaving his future up in the air.

Heskey added: ‘No disrespect to Coutinho as he is a fabulous player but where would he fit in the side right now?

‘The side is looking so good at this moment in time that you can’t see him fitting in unless you change the formation.’
