Emerson makes a mistake, according to Tottenham fans. Spurs had to make a swift move after the royal news.
On Tuesday evening, Emerson Royal became Tottenham’s fifth signing of the summer transfer season.
Tottenham completed their summer transfer business on Tuesday evening by signing Barcelona defender Emerson Royal. On the final day of the transfer window, the 22-year-old signed a five-year contract in north London after the Catalan giants accepted a fee of £22.5 million for his talents.
Emerson joins Tottenham as the club’s fifth summer signing, after Bryan Gil, Pierluigi Gollini, and Cristian Romero.
Pape Matar Sarr signed a permanent deal with the club earlier this month, although the 18-year-old will remain on loan until the end of the season.
Emerson was signed late by the Spurs, and he will compete for the right-back spot with Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga under Nuno Espirito Santo.
With fewer than five hours left in the transfer window, the club announced his arrival on social media, but a little error from their official Instagram account drew the attention of many fans.
Spurs incorrectly put the Argentine flag in their caption, which doesn’t work up given Emerson’s Brazilian origins.
A lot of followers swiftly pointed out the error, which was quickly corrected with the right flag.
Emerson, a native of Sao Paulo, appears to have taken no offense, saying, “Another wish came true, thank you, Lord!”
In January 2019, he joined Barcelona in a joint-financing agreement with Real Betis, with Atletico Mineiro receiving a small sum of £10 million for his services.
Emerson joined Betis at the start of last season as part of a pre-contract arrangement before Barcelona bought him for £7 million earlier this summer.
After just three La Liga games for the Catalan giants, he was allowed to join Spurs, rotating with Sergino Dest on the right side of Ronald Koeman’s back four.
After Tuesday’s announcement, Emerson shared a brief video on Twitter in which he stated that he is looking forward to putting his skills to the test in the Premier League over the next five years.
“I’m here to express my excitement at being in the top league in the world and playing for one of the best clubs,” he said.
“I am extremely grateful for the chance that Tottenham has provided me. I’m looking forward to getting a.”Brinkwire Summary News” as soon as possible.
