Despite Thomas Tuchel’s warning, Chelsea has yet to make a decision on Lucas Digne.

CHELSEA is still debating whether or not to sign Everton defender Lucas Digne.

Despite Thomas Tuchel publicly bemoaning Chelsea’s lack of wing-backs, the Blues are considering a move for Everton left-back Lucas Digne.

After a squabble with Everton manager Rafa Benitez, Digne is free to leave.

Newcastle is one of a number of clubs who have expressed an interest in signing the Frenchman.

After Ben Chilwell’s season-ending ACL injury late last year, Chelsea have been linked with a move for Digne.

Reece James is also out, leaving the Londoners with a wing-back deficiency.

Tuchel was forced to change his tactics for the Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham on Wednesday night, starting with a flat back four due to a lack of options.

The German manager had hinted a few weeks ago that the club’s defense was at an all-time low.

“We can look for players who are willing to participate.”

“We don’t have any wing-backs left, and everyone is injured,” Tuchel said after the 1-1 draw with Brighton in December.

“Players are returning from the Covid situation and playing, playing, playing.”

“I’ll always defend my players.”

I don’t want to talk about the next game until I’ve digested this.”

Despite Tuchel’s public statements, the Blues have been slow to bring in defensive reinforcements this month.

Chelsea are still ‘waiting to decide’ on whether or not to pursue a left-back this month, according to respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Although it’s unclear whether Chelsea will make a move for Digne this month, it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll leave Goodison Park after Benitez revealed the defender has requested to leave.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with him, and he’s told me what he thinks,” Benitez said ahead of Everton’s FA Cup third-round match against Hull City.

“What should a manager do if a player tells him he doesn’t want to be here?”

“I believe he was quite direct.

What do you expect the manager to say if a player doesn’t want to be here, according to [former Everton player]Peter Reid? He told me what he thought, so what do you expect the manager to say if a player doesn’t want to be here?
