DANNY MURPHY: VAR has made people angry and if it’s not scrapped, system in dire need of an overhaul

VAR has caused more problems than normal refereeing decisions — exactly what it wasn’t meant to do.

It’s stopped the flow of the game and created greater controversy than anyone could have anticipated.

Ideally, I’d get rid of it but I know realistically that’s not going to happen so I hope lessons are learned.

Referees should use the monitor rather than rely on Stockley Park to make big decisions because they are in tune with the flow of the game. The unintentional handball rule used to disallow goals has to be overturned.

A normal referee wouldn’t intervene but VAR spots them and it’s rightly made people angry.

Finally, offside. Forget dissecting things to the millimetre.
