Dana White discusses the stakes for Conor McGregor at UFC 264.
At UFC 264 on Saturday night, Conor McGregor will meet Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout.
Conor McGregor might leave Las Vegas this weekend with a title shot in his back pocket, according to UFC president Dana White.
White set out the stakes for the Irishman ahead of UFC 264 in Las Vegas this weekend, as the build-up continues for one of the most eagerly anticipated UFC fights of 2021 so far.
White told MMA Junkie/USA Today, “Listen, Conor McGregor is a competitor.”
“All you have to do is take a look. He’s got a lot of cash. He is no longer required to battle.
“He’s looking for a fight. He’s a true fighter at heart. Yes, he wants to be back on top, and that is what is at risk.
“If he beats the No. 1 person in the world, he’ll almost certainly earn the next title shot.
“Conor McGregor enjoys money almost as much as he enjoys competition. He makes a lot of money when he fights.
“At this moment in his life, these are all still extremely significant to him.”
Regardless of whether he wins or loses versus Poirier on Saturday, McGregor will have a plenty of alternatives following the fight. And White stated that he won’t start thinking about what’s next for the Irish superstar until UFC 264 is over.
White remarked, “I don’t worry about anything with Conor until after Saturday.”
“Because you never know where this kid’s mind is or what he’s thinking,” says the narrator.
“Man, he’s a fighter. Many people like to criticize and this and that, I used to say about him all the time.
“I’ve been in the living room for a while. When we were standing in front of the youngster, I was on the phone, saying, ‘Your opponent fell out and blah, blah, blah.’
“On the combat side, I’m familiar with Conor McGregor. There are a lot of guys in your group who talk a lot of s**t in public. The majority of it is untrue.
“The thing with Conor McGregor is that he’s always been willing to fight anyone, anywhere, at any time.
“He’s a very wealthy man. ‘How much more of this does he want?’ is the question. Is he starving? On Saturday night, we’ll find out.
“We’ll find out whether we win, lose, or draw.” Brinkwire Summary News”.
