In the first round of the Hamburg European Open, Dan Evans was comprehensively defeated by number two seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
For the British number one, it was a very tough draw and he was on court for just 59 minutes in a 6-3 6-1 loss to the Greek.
Clay is the weakest surface for Evans by far, and he’ll go to the French Open, which starts on Sunday, with no wins since last spring.
A bad service game in the first set by the 30-year-old at 2-1 gave Tsitsipas the decisive break.
In the second game of the second set, Evans had his only break point but could not capitalize, and six straight games for Tsitsipas took him within one.
In the second round, the runner up will face Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas.
