With first choice Andoni Iraola now anticipated to join Liverpool, Crystal Palace is considering a move for Pierre Sage, the highly regarded head coach of Lens.
Lens advanced Paris St. Germain to the top of the French league and won the French Cup. Luis Enrique, an astonished PSG manager, praised their style of play and declared Sage deserving of the nation’s coach of the year award.
Along with players like Frank Lampard and Dino Toppmöller, the 47-year-old was already on Palace’s radar, but Iraola was their top target due to his Premier League background.
In recent months, Tottenham and Liverpool have also taken notice of Sage due to his work.
Sage’s work at Lyon, where he started out as an academy coach before moving up the ranks to become the first team’s manager, first attracted the attention of clubs.
He qualified for the Champions League after joining Lens last summer. Although he has two years left on his deal, he wants to explore what Palace has to offer.
After Arne Slot was fired, Andoni Iraola is anticipated to take over at Liverpool.
It is believed that discussions took place on Saturday as Palace attempts to schedule a quick appointment.
Following Liverpool’s acquisition of Iraola, bookies put Lampard as the favorite to replace Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park, but Coventry City is hesitant to lose the player who has brought them back to the top division.
“We have gone up a level and we have to try and stay there,” stated Chairman Steve Parish last week. After a week of celebration, we’ll put in a lot of effort during the summer.
The club has also talked about Sean Dyche, Thomas Frank, and Kieran McKenna.
