Cristiano Ronaldo has been snubbed in the Serie A ‘MVP’ awards for the 2019-2020 season.
Paulo Dybala has been crowned the ‘most valuable player’ despite finishing 20 goals behind his Juventus team-mate, netting 11 times in the league compared to Ronaldo’s 31 strikes.
Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, who won the European Golden Shoe with 35 goals, won the ‘best striker award’.
Ronaldo was named most valuable player for the 2018-19 campaign with 21 goals, 10 less than he managed in this most recent season.
Juve’s Wojciech Szczesny won the best goalkeeper award while best defender went to Inter Milan’s Stefan De Vrij.
Atalanta’s Alejandro Gomez picked up best midfielder and Parma’s Dejan Kulusevski, who has now joined Juve permanently, won the best young player.
The winners of each award receive a special badge to wear on their shirts but Ronaldo opted not to have his printed after receiving his title last year.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the 35-year-old did not want to feel above or stand out from his team-mates.
The other winners from the 2018-19 season – Nicolo Zaniolo, Kalidou Koulibaly, Fabio Quagliarella and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – all chose to wear the badges on their shirts this season.
