Conor McGregor’s fourth bout with Dustin Poirier will take place after UFC 264, according to Poirier.
Conor McGregor will fight again, whether in the cage or elsewhere, according to the UFC’s top lightweight contender.
Since the completion of their matchup in Las Vegas on Saturday night, the bad blood between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier has shown no signs of abating ahead of their UFC 264 trilogy bout. Indeed, the events that transpired inside the T-Mobile Arena appear to have only heightened their rivalry.
McGregor’s enraged outburst following his injury-TKO loss to Poirier, who had mostly dominated the opening round of their fight, only added to the Irishman’s bad-tempered build-up, which had seen him scream threats and insults at Poirier in the lead-up to the battle.
And, speaking at the post-fight news conference backstage, Poirier said he expects to fight McGregor again, though he couldn’t say whether it would be in a sanctioned athletic event or a true street brawl.
“Whether it’s in the octagon or on the sidewalk, we’re going to fight again,” Poirier added.
“You don’t say things like that. My wife is a rock-solid woman. That isn’t anything I’m concerned about. That’s just background noise.
“He said he was going to murder me. You don’t say things like that, like he was going to kill me. That’s not something you say.
“You don’t say anything about people’s wives, either, but I know there’s no way.
“It’s possible that someone will die. That isn’t something you say. You don’t want that to happen to anyone.”
Not all of McGregor’s pre-fight rhetoric made it into the public consciousness, according to Poirier, with some of the worst ending up on the UFC’s cutting-room floor.
Poirier claimed, “Conor said some ugly stuff that didn’t make it on Embedded,” referring to the UFC’s fight-week YouTube vlog, which follows the fighters behind the scenes during the week leading up to fight night.
“Perhaps you’ll see him on the ground still yelling some pretty awful words when the behind-the-scenes for this bout airs.
“However, despite all of that, I would never wish significant damage on anyone. He’s a father of three.
“I want him to be able to return home to his family safely. Before these battles, I pray.
“Every time I step through the octagon door, I pray that I will not win. “Brinkwire Summary News.” I’m praying.
