Chelsea move to sign PSG legend Thiago Silva on a one-year contract a ‘done deal’

Chelsea’s move to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva is a ‘done deal’ with the veteran Brazilian set to undergo a medical with the Premier League club this week in a big boost to Frank Lampard’s defence.

The Blues have been very close to completing a move for the iconic Brazilian, with both parties in advanced talks over an initial 12-month contract with an option of an additional year.

And according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the switch from PSG to west London is ‘a done deal’ and the move should be wrapped up this week once the defender passes his medical.

Silva’s contract expired following Sunday night’s gut-wrenching Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich, meaning he is available on a free transfer.

Frank Lampard is keen to add defensive reinforcements to his squad during the window after his side conceded 79 goals across all competitions last term.

And there is a feeling that Silva, despite the fact he turns 36 next month, can improve the club’s backline.

Silva will bring huge experience and confirmed he has intentions to keep playing for three or four more years after he bid an emotional farewell to PSG where he won seven Ligue 1 titles in eight years.

‘It was my last game in Paris. I am sad. I apologise to the fans,’ Silva said following the 1-0 defeat against Bayern.

‘I thank all the fans for their love. I will return to Paris and this club that I love in another role. I want to play three to four years still and be part of Brazil team in the Qatar World Cup.’
