Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was correct when he said that Reece James will be replaced in the England squad.
After Thomas Tuchel’s shocked reaction to his participation, Reece James has withdrawn from the England team.
After Reece James withdrew from Gareth Southgate’s squad on Monday, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s startled reaction to Reece James’ England call-up was warranted. Ben Chilwell has taken James’ position as he recovers from an ankle injury sustained in the defeat to Manchester City last Saturday.
England issued a formal statement on Monday afternoon confirming James’ withdrawal as well as an exciting call-up for ex-Chelsea player Tammy Abraham.
“Ben Chilwell and Tammy Abraham have been added to England’s team for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month,” it said.
“With the exception of Reece James, who has been ruled out due to injury, all players will report at St. George’s Park on Tuesday.”
“On Saturday 9 October (7:45pm kick-off), the Three Lions travel to Andorra before hosting Hungary at Wembley Stadium, which is connected by EE, on Tuesday 12 October (7:45pm kick-off).”
Last season, James limped out in the 29th minute of Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel’s squads for the 1-0 loss at Juventus in midweek and the 3-1 triumph over Southampton on Saturday were both without him.
Many, including Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, were taken aback by his inclusion in Southgate’s latest group.
Following the announcement, the German leader remarked playfully on James’ participation at a news conference.
“You would presume [I gave James my consent to be involved], no?” he told reporters.
But when I saw that, I assumed Reece was with the England water polo team because he is currently training in the pool.
“I was astonished, but I realized he had been chosen for the football squad.” As a result, this will not happen because Reece is currently practicing in the pool.
“So, my understanding, based on my most recent knowledge, he will not attend.” So it’s only possible that there was a misunderstanding.” In Saturday’s triumph over Southampton, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta filled in for James at right-wing-back.
Tuchel’s team soared to the top of the table after seven games, with the 32-year-old contributing Timo Werner’s first Premier League goal of the season.
James will fight to return to action as soon as possible, with competition for regular appearances for the European champions fierce.
Tuchel, on the other hand, has plenty of back-up as he seeks to add the Premier League championship to his long list of achievements.
