Chelsea has three players in their squad. As the Blues eye a January transfer, Sevilla may accept in a swap deal.

On deadline day, Chelsea were forced to rethink their plans after Sevilla refused to sell one of their key players.

Chelsea are set to try again in January to sign Jules Kounde after failing to sign the promising centre-back this summer. Sevilla eventually stayed firm on their high valuation of the Frenchman, forcing the Blues to pull out of the deal, although their interest is unlikely to fade away completely.

Sevilla insisted on recouping the entirety of the player’s £68 million release clause after weeks of negotiations, which Chelsea felt too far.

Despite being tied to a promising young player, the price tag was simply too much for the Blues, especially since the defender who had just been added to their roster, Kurt Zouma, was a bit player.

Sevilla are a difficult club to deal with when it comes to their star defender, as evidenced by Manchester City’s failed effort to sign Kounde in the summer of 2020.

Nonetheless, according to The Guardian, Chelsea will try again in January, and Express Sport looks at three players who may be used to sweeten the deal.

What better way for Chelsea to persuade Sevilla to do business with them than by putting a prospective Kounde replacement in front of them?

After arriving as a free agent last summer, the former France under-21 international has become somewhat of a forgotten character at Stamford Bridge.

Despite this, the 22-year-old centre-back had the ability to break into the Nice first team as a teenager, where he made over 100 appearances before moving to west London.

With Thomas Tuchel apparently uninterested, the German attempted to find him a new loan destination before the deadline, however the teenager will remain on Chelsea’s books at least until January.

The 25-year-old was another player who appeared to be on the verge of completing a loan move before the transfer deadline, but it was not to be.

Given that Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and even new arrival Saul Niguez are ahead of him in the pecking order, Loftus-Cheek may struggle to get substantial minutes in the heart of midfield under Tuchel.

Due to the availability of other top-class choices, despite his talent, he would not be a significant loss to Chelsea’s team.

Meanwhile, Sevilla could be enticed. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
