Canelo Alvarez’s conversation with Eddie Hearn following the announcement of the Billy Joe Saunders fight
On May 8, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders will fight for the WBO super-middleweight world title.
After their super-middleweight unification fight was finally announced last Saturday, Canelo Alvarez allegedly informed Eddie Hearn that he believes Billy Joe Saunders is “easy work.” In Miami, the Mexican successfully defended his WBA, WBC, and Ring Magazine belts by halting Avni Yildirim in his tracks in three rounds.
Now, a year after the bout was postponed due to COVID-19, Canelo is looking to unify the division as he prepares to face WBO world champion Saunders.
The bout is the second in Canelo’s two-fight pact with Matchroom, and Hearn is now looking for a lengthier deal with the pound-for-pound king.
Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Rocky Fielding, Danny Jacobs, and Callum Smith are five of Hearn’s fighters who have attempted and failed to defeat Canelo.
Since the pair’s cooperation, the four-weight world champion hasn’t needed a second invitation to remind Hearn of his accomplishments.
Now, on Cinco de Mayo, Saunders is attempting to buck the pattern by daring to be great by headlining a blockbuster card filled with Mexican talent.
Canelo, on the other hand, sees the Brit as just another evening’s work as he seeks to add to his collection of belts.
“I told him, ‘BJS is a tough fight,’” Hearn stated on SiriusXM Boxing.
“’Yeah, for three rounds,’ he said. ‘It won’t be easy work like Yildirim,’ I remarked. ‘Yildirim was simple work,’ he said. Smith was simple to work with. ‘Working with Saunders is simple.’
Saunders, who shared the news on Instagram while wearing an apron with a fake penis, has subsequently quipped that he only agreed to fight for the money.
“All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, I just wanted to thank Canelo for everything; I’m a huge fan,” he remarked.
“I’ve been practicing for this for a long time, and I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.
“It’s been a long wait, but thank you for the opportunity, sir.
Eddie Hearn (@eddiehearn) shared a post.
“I’m simply here to pick up my money and go home, you know.
“It’s one of them,” says the narrator. It’s going to be great, and it’s going to be fantastic.
“I just want to thank everyone who has been following this this morning,” Brinkwire Summary News said.
