Bundesliga: Gladbach star Marcus Thuram spits at opponent – Borussia loses

Borussia led against TSG Hoffenheim for a long time. Marco Rose’s team was on the verge of an important victory in the last Bundesliga match of this calendar year. But suddenly the tide turned.

The last Bundesliga conference in this calendar year was unspectacular for a long time. Few scoring chances, few goals, few highlights. But Gladbach in particular cracked late in the game.

Borussia Mönchengladbach – TSG Hoffenheim
Borussia Mönchengladbach continues to lose ground in the Bundesliga. Coach Marco Rose’s team lost to TSG Hoffenheim 1:2 (1:0) and is further outside the European Cup places after a series of four games without a win.

Lars Stindl (34th, penalty kick) gave the five-time German champions the lead. Goal-scorer Andrej Kramaric (75th) equalized for Hoffenheim, Ryan Sessegnon (86th) scored the visitors’ winner. Gladbach striker Marcus Thuram also faces a lengthy ban: the Frenchman spat in Stefan Posch’s face from point-blank range and saw red (78th).

Rasenballsport Leipzig – 1. FC Köln
RB Leipzig’s impressive winning streak at home was snapped in the last Bundesliga match of the year. Coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team could not get beyond a 0-0 draw against 1. FC Köln in a tough game and failed to win at home for the first time this season. At the same time, the Saxons dropped two important points in the title fight.

Three days after a painful 4-0 defeat in the derby against Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne earned an important point and gained some breathing room in the relegation battle. Both clubs still have to play in the DFB Cup on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.). Leipzig will play FC Augsburg, while FC expects second-division team VfL Osnabrück.

Mainz 05 – Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen halted its slide and plunged FSV Mainz 05 deeper into crisis. After four defeats in a row, the team of coach Florian Kohfeldt won the crisis meeting at the table penultimate Mainz through a goal by Eren Dinkci (90th) with 1-0 (0-0). The joker scored in his first game in the Bundesliga.

While Bremen thus also ended their winning streak of nine games – the longest under Kohfeldt – the situation for Mainz is becoming increasingly threatening. After the 13th matchday, the Rheinhessen team has just six points on its account, while Bremen increased the gap to eight points. And right at the start of the new year, the 05ers have to face record champions Bayern Munich.

FC Augsburg – Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt has ended its black streak. After nine games in a row without a win, the Hessians finally managed a 2-0 (0-0) win at FC Augsburg.
