Boban Jacdonmi insists that when they appear tonight on Sky Sports primetime, Glasgow Rocks will be out to prove they are box-office contenders.
In a high-octane clash of the BBL’s bottom two teams, Gareth Murray’s men visit Worcester Wolves.
But Jacdomni maintains that he is comfortable stepping into the spotlight, having been constantly in front of the cameras during his four seasons of American college basketball.
“The 24-year-old center said, “Being from the U.S., being on TV is not really new for me. It’s game time once I’m on the court. We just have to think about winning the game. We can’t care about the fact that it’s on Sky. But we can use it to introduce ourselves to the nation as an opportunity.
“We’re just young. In this league, we are considered one of the weaker teams. Let’s prove, then, that we are truly a powerhouse and that we can compete with the best.
Murray expects the great American Ron Delph to be fit again for the game against Wolves, which is part of the Cheshire-Manchester Sky double-header.
Jacdonmi, however, has shown growing glimpses of his immense potential after a slow start, and in his return to British basketball, the young Londoner has become more relaxed.
The move from college to pro was certainly harder than I planned,” he said. “But I feel like I’ve gained more confidence as the games have gone on.
We’ve played almost every team in the league, so I’m learning what to expect. The more we get, the more I know. And it’s nice to use his experience to learn stuff in training to play under Gareth. With constructive criticism, he’s fantastic, and with every week that helped me get better.
Because you meet someone with a new skill, talent or a different way of looking at the game every time you play. As a rookie pro, I have to learn how to compete against each individual. I need to know their strengths, my weaknesses, and I need to evaluate things more.
Elsewhere, at the Copper Box, league leaders London and Newcastle meet.
