Before returning to the pitch in unpleasant scenes, Virgil van Dijk had his dislocated finger mended.

Virgil van Dijk has only recently returned to the Netherlands after a long absence.

Virgil van Dijk underwent treatment during the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Norway on Wednesday night, giving Liverpool fans a concern. The defender had dislocated a finger in a terrible accident, it turned out.

Van Dijk has only recently returned from an ACL tear that halted his 2020-21 season early.

During last October’s Merseyside derby, the 30-year-old was the victim of a horrific tackle by Everton’s Jordan Pickford.

In his absence, Liverpool’s form plummeted, and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was forced to deal with a severe injury crisis. Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all spent time on the bench with Van Dijk.

Van Dijk regained fitness at the conclusion of last season, but opted to skip Euro 2020 in order to focus on preparing for the 2021-22 season.

He has started each of Liverpool’s first three Premier League games and has been recalled to the Netherlands side for the international matches in September.

Van Dijk limped towards the touchline in evident discomfort early in the second half as Louis van Gaal’s team was tying 1-1 with World Cup qualifying opponents Norway.

The camera zoomed in on his index finger, which was out of place, at the center-back.

Van Dijk’s finger was strapped up by the national team’s doctor, and he was able to play the rest of the game.

Erling Haaland’s goal in the 19th minute gave Norway the lead. The highly coveted Borussia Dortmund striker gathered a pass and held off Van Dijk’s siege to score.

The lead, though, was short-lived, as former Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen equalized shortly before half-time.

The Netherlands is attempting to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2014. They lost out on competing in Russia three years ago due to a terrible qualifying campaign.

Van Dijk’s first major competition would be in Qatar in 2022. The former Southampton player was able to improve his fitness by playing against Norway.

Van Dijk opened all about rehabbing after a major injury last month.

After Liverpool defeated Norwich City 3-0 on the opening day of the season, he told Sky Sports, “You go from being perfectly fit to being unable to walk the next day.”
