Backlash is something India’s Virat Kohli may face against England, as the “unthinkable” might happen.

In a four-match Test series against England, Virat Kohli will captain India.

According to Nasser Hussain, India star Virat Kohli’s career as captain could be jeopardized if his team loses the first Test against England. For the first Test in Chennai, Kohli will return for India. The 32-year-old is returned on paternity leave, which saw him miss the final three games of Australia’s recent series victory.

Ajinkya Rahane filled in for Kohli in Australia, and India’s top brass have been urged to make the batsman the regular skipper.

Kohli, on the other hand, has been chosen by the selectors for the England visit.

Hussain thinks it was the right decision to stick with Kohli, but he has some criticisms for his captaincy.

However, the former England captain believes that if England wins in Chennai this week, there would be a backlash.

The “unthinkable” of Kohli being replaced as captain, according to Hussain, is suddenly a possibility.

In his Daily Mail column, Hussain stated, “Yes, there are things of his captaincy that I could criticize.”

“He doesn’t check all the boxes. He isn’t always as tactically adept as others, and he doesn’t always make the best decisions, such as leaving Cheteshwar Pujara out of the first Test when India last visited England.

“I refer to Kohli as the field’s tinkerman because he can make modifications after every ball.

“They frequently happen after the event, as well, and he can keep track of the ball.

“If a catch goes through the slips, he will plug it, and if it goes through mid-wicket, he will place a player there. However, only a few captains have everything.

“What I would say is that Kohli being replaced as captain is suddenly a possibility, which was unfathomable only a few months ago.

“And if India loses the first Test in Chennai — and that’s a big if — the entire country would question whether Rahane should have stayed in command.

“That is why England must get off to a strong start. If India dominates them in the first Test and takes a 1-0 lead, everything will be forgotten and Kohli will reign supreme once more.

“However, if Joe Root can create some doubt in India’s minds, this series might get very fascinating very quickly.”

After fracturing his wrist, England’s batsman Zak Crawley will miss the first two Tests. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
