Aston Villa have made an enquiry for Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
The 33-year old England international has one year left on contract and turned down the offer of a new deal last month.
Villa were interested in Jack Butland of Stoke City but their £25million asking price has prompted them to look at alternatives.
Heaton would be Villa’s seventh signing of the summer after they Tyrone Mings joined the club permanently from Bournemouth in a deal worth £26.5m on Sunday.
Villa will pay an initial £20m for centre back Mings, 26, who became a big fans’ favourite as he helped Dean Smith’s side win the Championship play-offs.
Dean Smith wants at least one more central defender and are in pole position to land free-agent Gary Cahill and bring him back to Villa Park where he began his career.
