As the Red Bull driver aspires to win the championship, Max Verstappen wants to ‘learn’ from Sergio Perez.
At Red Bull, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have a productive working relationship.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull has revealed that he wants to learn from Sergio Perez in terms of creating a healthy work-life balance in order to give himself the best opportunity of beating Lewis Hamilton to the Drivers’ Championship. After winning five Grands Prix since the start of the season, the Dutchman is 32 points ahead of his Mercedes adversary at the summit of the standings.
Verstappen has emerged as the favorite to win this year’s championship and deny Hamilton a record-breaking eighth world title. Hamilton recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Silver Arrows.
For the first time in years, Red Bull has built a true championship contender in the RB16B, and it may easily win the double when everything is said and done at the conclusion of the season.
Perez’s performance has helped them win the Constructors’ Championship, as he has outpaced Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas in the fight of the second drivers.
The Mexican came in to replace Alexander Albon at the start of the season and has been able to contribute points on a consistent basis to his team’s quest for victory.
Verstappen acknowledged that he is enjoying his Red Bull relationship with Perez ahead of this month’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
As he continues to develop as a racer, the 23-year-old said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his teammate by enjoying a successful family life away from the track.
Verstappen told Speedweek, “What I appreciate most about him is that we push each other on while still being able to deal with each other in a relaxed situation.”
“Don’t take this for granted since some drivers take it all too seriously. Sergio has struck a decent balance between his career as a Formula One racer and his personal life. That is something I can learn from.”
During his time at Red Bull, Verstappen has shared the track with a variety of teammates, all of whom have had varied degrees of success.
Prior to the advent of Sergio Perez, he was closely pursued by Daniel Ricciardo before the Australian joined Renault in 2019, although he had periods of complete dominance over Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon.
