As Lewis Hamilton suffers from agony in the Turkish Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas focuses on his first F1 victory in 2021.

Valtteri Bottas won the 2021 F1 Turkish Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen finishing second.

After winning his first race of the 2021 Formula One season at the Turkish Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas reflected on a “well-earned” victory. In rainy circumstances, the Mercedes driver led from start to finish, and aside from one hair-raising moment, he was comfortable as he held off the Red Bull combo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, who finished second and third, respectively.

Despite finishing fifth after starting 11th and finishing fifth, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was frustrated.

With eight laps to go, the seven-time world champion was third and emphatic that he wanted to finish the race without pitting, but was forced to pit by Mercedes for a tyre change against his will, and then found himself unable to close the distance on Leclerc.

It meant that the lead in the drivers’ standings had changed hands yet again, with Verstappen now six points ahead of his British adversary, having started the race three points behind him.

Bottas, on the other hand, was the star of the day, claiming his tenth Formula One victory and, in the process, averting Mercedes’ second winless season since 2017.

After the race, the Finnish driver told Sky Sports’ David Coulthard: “It’s been a while but feels wonderful.” His previous win occurred 13 months ago at the 2020 Russian Grand Prix.

“From my perspective, it was one of the best races I’ve ever participated in.” With the exception of one minor slip (on turn one), I’ve got everything under control.

“The car was good in every condition, and I had a lot of faith in it.” I’m relieved that everything went smoothly for me this time. It was enjoyable.

“When there’s just one drying line, it doesn’t take much to set it off. Throughout the race, I had to maintain a high level of concentration. It’s been a long road, but it seems like a well-deserved win.” ** On this breaking news story, we’ll bring you the most up-to-date information, photos, and video.
