As his transfer stance becomes clear, Philippe Coutinho admires three Aston Villa players.

ASTON VILLA are said to be leading the race to sign Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho.

According to reports, Philippe Coutinho believes Aston Villa can push for European qualification under Steven Gerrard.

Coutinho is said to be a fan of the Villa Park squad as he nears a return to the Premier League.

Barcelona is keen to offload Coutinho this window, and Villa are now the frontrunners to sign him.

In recent days, six English clubs have been linked with the Brazilian.

However, it appears that a reunion with Steven Gerrard is planned.

Coutinho and Gerrard were teammates at Liverpool for two seasons.

After replacing Dean Smith, who was fired earlier this season, Gerrard is now the manager of Villa.

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Coutinho has been sold on Gerrard’s project.

Solhekol, who has close ties to those involved in the deal, has named three Villa players who have piqued his interest.

Ollie Watkins, a striker, and Argentina’s Emi Buendia and Emi Martinez are the players in question.

“After speaking with people on the player’s side of the deal, my impression is that he would be interested in joining Aston Villa,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News.

“He knows people at Aston Villa, he knows Steven Gerrard, and he knows Christian Purslow from his Liverpool days.”

“Aston Villa, he believes, is a young club on the rise.”

Aston Villa has big plans for Steven Gerrard and the owners, as well as Christian Purslow.

“He is aware of the caliber of players in the Aston Villa squad, including Ollie Watkins, Emi Buendia, and Emi Martinez.

“And he believes that if he was at Aston Villa on a regular basis, he could help them climb the table and possibly get into Europe.”

“So I believe that’s a foregone conclusion.”

At his Thursday press conference, Gerrard was asked about the possibility of signing Coutinho.

He would not comment on reports linking his club to a move for the forward.

He couldn’t hide his admiration for a player he refers to as a friend.

“I can understand why a lot of supporters all over the country are talking about him,” Gerrard said.

“I don’t believe you get a nickname as a magician unless you are a magician.”
