Arsenal ‘tracking Pape Gueye’ but will face competition for the Ligue 2 star

Arsenal are keeping an eye on midfielder Pape Gueye ahead of a possible summer move, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has been a standout player in the second division of French football this season and has already been handed the captain’s armband at Le Havre despite his young age.

His contract runs out at the end of next season, which means the Ligue 2 side will have to make a decision over his future.

According to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, Arsenal are keen to take advantage of that.

The outlet also describes the midfielder as a combination between N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, given his playing style and physique.

Sevilla, AC Milan and Udinese are also said to be taking a look at the box-to-box man.

Valencia were also credited with an interest in him during last summer, according to the newspaper.

Mikel Arteta will be keen to rebuild his Arsenal side after the end of the current campaign.

He was only able to make minimal changes in January due to the tight finances at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta brought in defenders Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari as he looked to fix his back-line.
