Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn feels the Gunners should build a team around young and dynamic duo Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Arsenal could construct a successful team around young English stars Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, according to NIGEL WINTERBURN.

Winterburn, 57, says the dynamic combination are now foundations of Mikel Arteta’s in-form Arsenal team.

Saka, 20, and Smith Rowe, 21, both of England’s Under-21 team, have two goals and one assist this season for an Arsenal side that has won four of their previous five games.

Winterburn, a former left-back who made 440 appearances for the club, believes both are essential if they are to compete for titles again.

“Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are two players Arsenal will not want to lose or have injured for long periods of time,” he told PaddyPower.

“A few weeks ago, Smith Rowe was left out of a game, which surprised me because his impact on the pitch is huge.

“Arsenal are looking to construct a team around all of those young guys. They’re establishing alliances, and the more they play together, the more they feel like they’re winning games, and the greater their team relationship gets.

“I don’t understand why Arsenal wouldn’t construct a team around them and complement them by bringing in future-oriented players.”

SWinterburn also believes Martin Odegaard, a 22-year-old summer signing from Real Madrid for £34 million, is an important element of the team Arteta is attempting to assemble, and that fans are beginning to see “positive development.”

“This is Mikel Arteta’s defining season,” he added. He’s brought in new players who are his signings, and he’ll have plenty of time to work with them, so everything must fall into place.

“Arsenal’s first three games were dreadful, but we’ve seen a consistent back four with Ramsdale in goal since then, which can only help.

“Arteta hasn’t made any changes to the midfield or front lines. Hopefully, recent outcomes will give us the impetus we need to get moving.” ⚽ For the most up-to-date rumours, rumors, and completed transactions, visit our Football news live blog.
