Anthony Joshua may be passed over for the Deontay Wilder trilogy fight by Tyson Fury.
Tyson Fury has refused to rule out a third fight against Deontay Wilder ahead of his fight with Anthony Joshua.
Tyson Fury has hinted that he may pass on Anthony Joshua in order to face Deontay Wilder for a third time later this year. Since Joshua’s victory over Kubrat Pulev in December, a heavyweight unification bout between the two British champions has been in the works, with negotiations reportedly still underway.
Both Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn and Fury’s promoter Bob Arum have stated that a contract is close to being inked and finalised, with only a few minor technicalities remaining to be hammered out.
The persistent possibility of a third bout between the ‘Gypsy King’ and his American opponent has been a potential setback since Fury’s triumph over Wilder last year.
When the two fighters collided 13 months ago, a rematch clause was purportedly added to the contract, allowing the downed champion Wilder to demand a trilogy fight in order to seek redemption.
Although both teams have contested the technicalities surrounding this, there is still a chance that Fury will put his undisputed goals on wait for the time being and meet Wilder again.
He told IFL TV that the Alabama native, who hasn’t fought since losing his WBC title last year, could be in line for a rematch, while also implying that the Joshua bout may not be as close to happening as previously believed.
“Don’t rule Deontay Wilder out of the equation,” Fury stated. “Who knows, he could be battling me next. With Wilder, I might be able to write a trilogy.
“There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, and Wilder could be next, who knows?” says the source.
Fury, like Wilder, has been dormant since the pair’s second confrontation, and he may decide to embark on a trilogy to warm up before facing Joshua’s power.
The American has always maintained that he is entitled to a third fight, but he hinted last month that he would move on and fight Joshua himself.
Wilder said on Instagram Live with Marcus Watson that he wants to reclaim his reputation by facing and defeating those with whom he has yet to share the ring.
“Without name the obvious [Fury] that everyone knows, I’d love.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
