Andy Murray received a hilariously fitting gift from a fan in Indian Wells, after being reunited with his missing tennis shoes. The former world No 1 took to Instagram ahead of the tournament to appeal for help after leaving his shoes, with his wedding ring tied to them, underneath his car to dry before finding they had disappeared the following day. He then shared a positive update, revealing he was reunited with his ‘stinky’ shoes.

Murray is currently playing in Indian Wells for the first time since 2017, though the early focus on his comeback in the Californian desert has instead related to off-court matters.

The three-time Grand Slam champion took to his Instagram account before his opening match to ask for help after leaving his tennis shoes under the car overnight to “air them out” following a hot day in Indian Wells, and returning the morning after to find them gone.

It was bad news for Murray, who was forced to buy a new pair of shoes at a local tennis shop and worse, had left his wedding ring tied to the shoelaces.

Luckily the shoes were returned to him after a member of staff at his hotel found them, with the ring still on the laces, and his crisis was averted in time for him to secure a stunning 6-3 6-2 victory over world No 51 Adrian Mannarino.

The current world No 121 has now received a fitting present from a fan in the Californian desert, to make sure he never finds himself in the same situation again.

His mum, Judy Murray, took to Twitter to share the hilarious but appropriate gift, writing: “Thoughtful gift from a fan. Nice one @thaiguy84.”

The Scottish tennis coach attached a photo showing her son smiling while holding a pair of Odor Eaters insoles, ensuring he no longer needed to leave his tennis shoes outside to get rid of the smell.

Murray was delighted to be reunited with his shoes, telling his Instagram followers on Thursday (October 7): “I had to make a few calls today to and chat to the security at the hotel and a little update for everyone, would. “Brinkwire Summary News”.
