Alexander Zverev has been accused of domestic violence by John McEnroe and Reilly Opelka.

After losing to Denis Shapovalov and John Isner in the doubles, Alexander Zverev stated Team World will not earn another point at the 2021 Laver Cup.

After defeating Team Europe in the Laver Cup, John McEnroe and a Team World player attacked Alexander Zverev, joking about domestic violence charges brought by his ex-girlfriend. It happened after Denis Shapovalov and John Isner upset Zverev and Matteo Berrettini in the doubles to put their team on the board at the end of day one.

On day one of the team event, Team Europe got off to a flying start, winning all three singles matches and racking up three points.

The first day ended with a doubles match between Europe’s Zverev and Berrettini and Team World’s Isner and Shapovalov, with the American-Canadian combination earning a much-needed win to secure their team the tournament’s first point.

Following their doubles victory, Team World captain John McEnroe overheard Zverev claiming his team would not win another point, prompting the world players to weigh in on his denial of domestic violence charges leveled by his ex-girlfriend Olga ‘Olya’ Sharypova.

Zverev and Sharypova dated for around a year before splitting in the autumn of 2019, and a year later, the Russian spoke out publicly for the first time about her claimed ordeal, building on her story once more in an article published just before the US Open.

Sharypova said that the recent Cincinnati champion smashed her head against a wall, was ‘controlling and possessive,’ sat on her face with a pillow, seized her passport to keep her from leaving him, and struck her in the face during a series of assaults throughout their relationship.

She also recalled attempting suicide twice by injecting herself with insulin, once after domestic abuse in their Geneva hotel room during the 2019 Laver Cup, with a tournament official persuading her to let them in to help, and again during the 2019 Rolex Shanghai Masters before suffering the’most violent’ attack at the hands of Zverev a day later.

“Brinkwire Summary News” reports that the world No. 4 continues to dispute all of Sharypova’s allegations, despite the fact that no formal charges have been filed.
