Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been persuaded to leave Liverpool, which may result in a transfer bonanza for the Reds.
Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has being urged to leave this summer.
By selling England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, Liverpool may raise some much-needed transfer dollars. During his tenure at Anfield, the midfielder has had a string of injuries and only started two Premier League games last season.
Jurgen Klopp has been patient with the injury-prone 27-year-old, but the manager may be ready to sell him this summer.
Klopp will use any funds obtained to help fund new signings, but he is unlikely to regain anything close to the £34 million Arsenal paid for the midfielder in 2017.
Following his arrival at Anfield four years ago, Oxlade-Chamberlain was tipped for huge things.
In his first season with Liverpool, he was a Premier League regular, but he tore his cruciate ligament in the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League semi-final against Roma in April 2018, and he didn’t play for the first team for a year.
Last season, he suffered another knee injury and missed the first few months of the season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a move to West Ham after falling down the pecking order at Anfield.
Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson believes it is now the proper time for the midfielder to move on.
He told BettingOdds.com, “West Ham is a terrific football team, and they will allow Alex enjoy his career.”
“Obviously, the biggest worry with Ox is that he needs to keep in shape because he’s a tremendous player with a lot of enthusiasm and excellent ability, but it doesn’t help on the treatment table.
“Hopefully, his body will be able to make it through the entire season next year. However, I believe West Ham United and Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a good match.
“Moyes would free him from his constraints, allowing him to enjoy himself and see what he can do. Let’s hope Alex can stay in shape and return to his best.”
West Ham enjoyed a successful season last year, finishing sixth in the Premier League under David Moyes.
That was enough to earn the Hammers a place in the Europa League, but Moyes knows he’ll need to add to his squad this summer in order to fight on all fronts.
In recent weeks, West Ham has been linked with defenders Kurt Zouma, Phil Jones, and Nikola Milenkovic as Moyes attempts to bolster his backline.
