The FIA has tarnished Formula One following the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
FORMULA 1 has been “tarnished” as a result of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix’s controversial outcome, according to Labour peer Lord Peter Hain.
Toto Wolff, Mercedes Team Principal, has stated that Formula One requires more changes than simply “replacing the race director.”
Last month, race director Michael Masi infuriated the Austrian by allowing some lapped cars to overtake the safety car at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull had just pitted for new tyres, and Masi’s decision made it much easier for the Dutchman to overtake and snare the championship on the final lap.
“It’s a bigger problem, my values are simply not compatible with the decisions that were made,” Wolff told Motorsport.com in Spanish.
“It’s not just about replacing the race director,” says the narrator.
It is necessary to improve the entire decision-making system.
“It’s one thing to drive aggressively and have differing points of view among drivers and teams; that’s normal.
Inconsistent decisions, on the other hand, inevitably lead to controversy, much of it unwarranted.”
Lord Peter Hain, a Labour peer and Vice-Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Formula One, agrees with him.
According to him, the FIA needs to have a “heart to heart” with itself because Formula 1’s reputation has been “tainted.”
“The FIA needs to examine its own heart,” he said.
The FIA, as the governing body, cannot afford for Formula 1 to be tarnished in this way.
“The FIA needs to talk about it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Lord Hain also claimed that the race was “rigged” to produce a dramatic conclusion.
“As a lifelong Formula 1 fan, I thought it was a perverse outcome,” he continued.
“The stewards effectively rigged the finish to produce a dramatic finale for the theater rather than a racing result.”
“I believe it has left a sour taste in the mouth, unless you are a die-hard Verstappen fan, but even many of them have admitted that it has done so.”
“Ok, the rules are a little complicated for the average fan, but at least they’re consistent.”
That finish was clearly concocted and manufactured to allow for it.
“When Lewis went to the Red Bull, I thought he acted with enormous dignity.”
