After surprising Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier sends a message to Khabib: “I am the champion.”
On Saturday night, Dustin Poirier stunned Conor McGregor by knocking him out in the second round at UFC 257 in Las Vegas.
After knocking out Conor McGregor at UFC 257, Dustin Poirier crowned himself the “champion.” After 2:32 of round two of the main event, the American overcame McGregor in the highly anticipated bout.
Poirier seeks retribution after losing to McGregor in a 2014 fight via technical knockout in the opening round.
With Khabib Nurmagomedov, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, having proclaimed his retirement and despite Dana White’s best efforts, no closer to a comeback, Poirier moved to declare himself the new champion.
Despite the fact that this fight was not promoted as a championship match, Poirier’s surprise victory serves as a warning to Nurmagomedov.
“It felt like a title battle to me. After his victory, Poirier declared, “I am the champion.”
“I’m content, but I’m not surprised because I put in the effort.
“I wanted to be technical and pick my shots,” says the player. should avoid any sort of brawl. I can box technically, but I have a habit of going insane and putting myself into trouble.”
McGregor fought in the lightweight class for the first time since losing to Nurmagomedov in 2018. In fact, the Irishman hasn’t won in the division since defeating Eddie Alvarez in 2016.
He had a good first round before Poirier got him with a flurry of head blows and two left hands buckling his knees. Poirier then pushed McGregor to the canvas, where he ended it quickly with a short right hand.
This was the first bout in McGregor’s mixed martial arts career where he was stopped by punches; his previous four losses had all been by submission.
His loss to Poirier was his first in almost a year, and the American commended McGregor for his professionalism, even hinting that a third fight with the Irishman was possible.
“First and foremost, I have to say that Conor has handled this situation quite professionally,” Porier stated.
“Since we’re 1-1, maybe we’ll have to do it again.” I’m content with my current location.”
Poirier also praised his foundation’s work in the United States.
“Winning is nice, but with my good fight foundation back home, I’m fighting for bigger things. “Brinkwire Summary News” is one of my favorites.
