After Man Utd’s win, Jamie Carragher mocks Rio Ferdinand with a Michael Carrick tweet.
Manchester United defeated Villarreal 2-0, and Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool icon, cracked a joke on behalf of Rio Ferdinand.
Following Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Villarreal tonight, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher resorted to social media to criticize Rio Ferdinand. In his debut match in charge, United caretaker manager Michael Carrick led the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League. With one game remaining in the group, United has qualified for the knockout stages.
With 12 minutes remained in the game, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game’s first goal.
Late on, Jadon Sancho clinched the victory with his first goal for the club since joining for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund.
Carragher emulated former United defender Ferdinand with a tweet as United’s victory was announced.
Carragher phrased it thus way: “Man United may not appreciate it, but bring the contract out, lay it on the table, and let him sign it. Let him write whatever figures he wants, but let him sign the contract. Carrick is behind the wheel!” Ferdinand was plainly mocked in the post for remarks he made on live television regarding former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer two and a half years ago.
In the 2018-19 season, when Solskjaer was only interim manager, Ferdinand made the identical statement following United’s comeback win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
United quickly appointed Solskjaer as their permanent manager, but the Norwegian was unable to restore Old Trafford’s glory days.
Before being terminated by United on Sunday, Solskjaer had failed to win any silverware with the club.
