Pep Guardiola showed his support for West Ham on Saturday night in Manchester by raising his arms and crossing one wrist in front of the other. “Come on you, Irons,” he shouted, grinning menacingly as he got up from his chair and walked out of the room, looking back as laughter trailed after him.
At the London Stadium, he needed West Ham to do him and City a great favour. To give City hope, he needed them to defeat Arsenal and get at least a point. He just needed Arsenal to make a mistake once more. It was this. He was aware of it. Arsenal was aware of it. As they battled to avoid relegation, West Ham was also aware of this.
It appeared as though the gods had heard Guardiola’s predictions in the last moments of the match. In the final moments, it seemed as though everything had painfully slipped away from Arsenal. It seemed as though City would win the championship once more. It seemed as though Arsenal would finish in second place for the fourth time in a row.
It was difficult to breathe due to the drama that was added in the last seconds of the game. There are still two games remaining for Arsenal, but this is where a season of hardship and optimism came to a head.Gary Neville stated on Sky Sports, “This is an earthquake of a moment,” and he was correct.
Seven minutes from time, Arsenal took the lead, giving them a valuable five-point advantage over City. City’s next game is against Crystal Palace this week.
However, in the very end, West Ham threw everything they had at a corner that Jarrod Bowen had swung in. Their goalie, Mads Hermansen, threw himself at it but missed it completely. Under pressure from Pablo, David Raya attempted to catch it but dropped it; Callum Wilson then rifled it into the net.
Arsenal’s late 1-0 victory over West Ham put them one step closer to capturing the Premier League.
However, there was drama as VAR disallowed the Hammers’ last-minute equaliser.
Following a thorough investigation, Pablo was found to have fouled Arsenal custodian David Raya.
Was it correct for the referee to disallow West Ham’s equaliser?
Was it correct for the referee to disallow West Ham’s equaliser?
Now express your thoughts.
As one might anticipate, West Ham celebrated their salvation with wild enthusiasm. They would have tied Spurs in the race to avoid the drop with a point. The Arsenal players appeared in disbelief. They appeared upset. Mikel Arteta, however, felt a final opportunity to flee on the touchline. He pointed to his arm.
Replays revealed that as they both jumped for the ball, Pablo’s arm might have hindered Raya. It appeared insignificant. Either way may have happened. Chris Kavanagh, the referee, went to the touchline to check the screen. As the players gathered around him, he spent ages poring over the replays.
After a while, he returned to the pitch and announced his plans. He claimed that Pablo, the 19th player for West Ham, had fouled the Arsenal custodian. At the opposite end, the Arsenal supporters were ecstatic. “Limbs,” I think what happened there would be referred to be a show. It was unbelievable to West Ham fans.
That was all. Soon after the final whistle blew, a few Arsenal players collapsed to the ground in relief, shock, and emotional tiredness. They still have to play Crystal Palace away and Burnley at home, but this was their hardest assignment. They will be England’s champions for the first time in 22 years if they win their final two games.
Even before the dramatic denouement, they had nearly managed to discard everything. After Mikel Arteta’s disastrous changes, Arsenal’s first-half dominance vanished. There were moments when they seemed to have lost their poise. It seems that the Curse of Pep had done its job. Finally, they were delivered.
In the first half, Arsenal ought to have won the match. In the ninth minute, Leandro Trossard made a beautiful pass with the outside of his right boot in behind the West Ham defence and onto Riccardo Calafiori’s path, which should have given them the lead.
On Mads Hermansen, Calafiori was clear through, and the ball begged to be struck with his right foot. However, Calafiori tried to utilise his left foot, which allowed Konstantinos Mavropanos to recover and block the shot when it eventually came.
That was merely a prelude to yet another surge of opportunities for Arsenal. Trossard met Declan Rice’s deep corner to the back post unmarked and headed it in the direction of goal. Hermansen managed to claw it out with a great reaction save. Trossard’s second header bounced past the post after the ball bounced around in the air before falling to him once more.
West Ham’s hearts were broken, even though Callum Wilson had the ball in the net.
Arsenal eventually overtook Man City by five points thanks to a goal from Leandro Trossard in the 83rd minute.
Mikel Arteta wildly celebrated Trossard’s victory, which caused chaos on the Arsenal bench.
Tomas Soucek of West Ham deflected Trossard’s shot from Martin Odegaard’s pass.
Mavropanos saved West Ham once more in the middle of the half. With speed and whip, Rice curled in a free kick to the near post, where Calafiori was the first to reach it and glance it in the direction of the goal. Hermansen was defeated, but Mavropanos once more threw himself in the ball’s path and used his right boot to keep it out.
When Crysencio Summerville ran down the left and burst through a few tackles, the West Ham supporters, who had not had much to applaud, finally came to life. In one of them, which bore a striking resemblance to a stamp, Ben White looked worse. Martin Zubimendi had to take White’s place. Rice shifted to the right back.
The little hope that West Ham had was coming from Summerville. Halfway through, he skilfully moved away from Myles Lewis-Skelly before scuffing a shot wide. He received more applause once he bumped into Gabriel. a yellow card as well.
However, the crowd had been aroused by his efforts, and West Ham and the rest of his squad started to pose a threat. Wan-Bissaka got free down the right and clipped a cross into the box as the first half came to a finish and extra time began to run. Raya pushed himself to his right and made a fantastic stop to put it wide after Taty Castellanos met it with a spectacular header that was headed for the bottom corner.
By that point, it was clear that Rice’s shift to right-back had backfired severely. The midfield was no longer under Arsenal’s control. At halftime, Arteta had to make a choice. The daring move would have been to replace Zubimendi with Cristhian Mosquera, but Arteta decided against it.
Mosquera was one of the Arsenal players when the teams left for the second half, although Zubimendi had not been sacrificed. Calafiori was the one. Calafiori, who had contributed significantly to Arsenal’s attacking situations in the first half, seemed hurt by that. Arsenal lost Lewis-Skelly’s energy in midfield when he switched to left back.
It took Arteta and his team another twenty-three minutes to recognise that it was the wrong decision, even if it seemed that way right away. At halftime, they finally took the appropriate action and acknowledged that Zubimendi’s midfield was just not functioning. Kai Havertz was used in his place.
David Raya made a spectacular save from Manuel Fernandes just before the winner.
Raya led his team to their greatest victory to date and played with inspiration the entire time.
Both sets of supporters found the game to be excruciating to watch because there was so much on the line.
However, Arsenal prevailed and is now two games away from winning the Premier League.
Hermansen 7–Disasi 6 (Wilson 85), Todibo 7, Mavropanos 8–Wan-Bissaka 7, Soucek 7, Mateus Fernandes 6, Diouf 6–Bowen 6, Summerville 8–Castellanos 7 (Pablo 67 6) are the scores for West Ham United (3:4:2:1).

Mikel Arteta 5 is the manager.
Trossard was the man of the match.
Chris Kavanagh 7 is the referee.
Even by today’s standards, it would have been harsh to punish the West Ham substitute after Arsenal claimed that a wayward ball had struck Pablo’s hand while he lay on the ground in the area. Chris Kavanagh, the referee, dismissed the appeals.
On the other side, Mateus Fernandes had only Raya to beat after skipping away from a lunging challenge from Gabriel in the box, costing West Ham a fantastic opportunity to take the lead. He hit his shot directly at the custodian, who blocked it with his body even though it appeared likely to score.
For Arsenal, everything appeared to be crumbling. They began to go insane. They sensed that the league was getting away from them once more. They started to become frustrated. Mosquera and Saka were both quickly booked for fouls.
Then, with seven minutes remaining, Arsenal scored the goal they and their supporters had been longing for. After jinking his way into the box, Martin Odegaard turned and returned the ball to Trossard. The first time Trossard hit it, it deflected off Tomas Soucek and raced into the net.
Relieved and ecstatic, Odegaard collapsed to his knees in the box. The Arsenal supporters in the stadium behind the goal rushed down the aisles to join Trossard and the other players in celebrating.
But it wasn’t finished yet. The stadium exploded as Wilson rifled the ball home after Bowen’s corner deep into extra time caused mayhem in the box. Then Mr. Kavanagh and VAR intervened. It will be remembered as the moment Arsenal won the league if they manage to cross the finish line in this race.
