After Ian Wright backs the trade, James Maddison might wear Arsenal shirt numbers.
Arsenal are interested in signing James Maddison this summer, and Express Sport examines which shirt number he would wear if he did join the club.
If Arsenal completes a move for Leicester’s James Maddison this summer, they will give him an identifiable shirt number. Mikel Arteta has been looking for an attacking midfielder all summer, and Maddison is currently at the top of his list. Several players are said to have been offered in part-exchange for the England international by the Gunners.
Arsenal and Adidas have unveiled their official 2021/22 home jersey, which is based on the club’s motto of “Arsenal for everyone.”
Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, has stated that Maddison will not be sold this summer.
However, Arsenal’s interest in the 24-year-old was a topic of conversation before of Saturday’s Community Shield, in which Leicester City defeated Manchester City 1-0.
Arsenal star Ian Wright believes that his former club’s desire to pursue players of Maddison’s caliber is a positive sign.
“Arsenal will be up there,” Wright said on ITV Sport, refuting Roy Keane’s notion that Arsenal would be a step down for the midfielder.
“Because Arsenal is still striving to build and get to where they want to be, players like Maddison are exactly what they need to get them back there.
“Manchester United, like Liverpool before them, have gone through their mile-and-a-half of pipe, like Andy Defraine in Shawshank Redemption, where there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“Arsenal need guys like that, but you have to respect Arsenal’s name because they’re trying to get back to where they were.
“With what Leicester has done in terms of winning the league and the FA Cup, it’s more recent, and they’re still going through their piping. We’ll be back, Arsenal.” So, if Arsenal completes the signing of Maddison, what number shirt may he wear?
