After a shocking pre-season defeat, Real Madrid fans are clamoring for a Rangers signing.
When the La Liga powers came to Ibrox, one of Steven Gerrard’s players shone.
Real Madrid fans have jokingly suggested that the club acquire Rangers winger Ryan Kent this summer instead of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe. Rangers surprised La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox on Sunday, with Kent starring.
Carlo Ancelotti returned to the United Kingdom with Real Madrid, who visited Glasgow to continue their preparations for the 2021/22 season.
Despite missing some key players, the 13-time European champions had a star-studded squad.
Marcelo, Lucas Vasquez, Luka Jovic, Martin Odegaard, Isco, and Rodrygo all made their debuts against Steven Gerrard’s side.
The Scottish champions, on the other hand, shone in the second half, reacting to Rodrygo’s early opener with two goals from Fashion Sakala and Cedric Itten.
Real are considered the frontrunners to conclude a mega deal for Mbappe’s services, with his future at PSG unknown.
Despite the fact that his PSG contract is coming to an end in the next 12 months, the 22-year-old forward would want a large fee this summer.
Real are expected to receive a financial boost in their pursuit of Mbappe as Raphael Varane draws in on a deal to Manchester United.
Los Blancos are expected to get an initial fee of £43 million (€50 million) for Varane, which they will use to pursue Mbappe in August, according to Spanish media.
However, following Kent’s performance against Real on Sunday, some fans appear to desire to see the 24-year-old Englishman arrive at the Bernabeu.
Managing Madrid, a renowned Real Madrid Twitter account, put out a tweet praising Kent during the friendly.
“Let’s sign Ryan Kent instead of Kylian Mbappe,” they said.
It received over 5,000 likes and a slew of responses from Rangers fans who were less than enthusiastic about the notion.
“Nah, you stick to Mbappe, and if you don’t mind, we’ll hang on to Kent!” one supporter said.
“No, unless you have £700 million,” said another.
“No worries, guys,” said a third enthusiast. Sure, we can work something out.” They also included a GIF of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers stating “one billion dollars.”
Rangers fans clearly do not want Kent to leave the club, and despite the jokes, Real is unlikely to pursue him this summer.
