The scary end-of-the-world predictions of Stephen Hawking: ‘Extinction is unavoidable.’
PROFESSOR STEPHEN HAWKING issued a series of ominous prophecies for humanity’s future on Earth, including one that stated that “extinction is unavoidable.”
Professor Hawking was a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who served as the director of research at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Theoretical Cosmology until his death in 2018. His amazing scientific achievements included a partnership with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularity theorems in the context of general relativity, as well as the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, which is commonly referred to as Hawking radiation. But he was clearly interested in how Earth’s final days might unfold.
For decades, he advocated for humans to begin colonizing other planets on the assumption that we will someday face an extinction-level disaster, such as an asteroid collision.
“Although the likelihood of a tragedy hitting planet Earth in a given year may be fairly low in a given year, it mounts up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or 10,000 years,” he told the BBC in 2016.
“For at least the next hundred years, we will not be able to construct self-sustaining colonies in space, therefore we must exercise extreme caution during this time.”
Global warming, according to the Cambridge physicist, is one of the most serious risks to life on the blue planet.
He was concerned that human-caused climate change might have disastrous repercussions.
“We are nearing the critical point where global warming becomes irreversible,” he remarked in 2017.
“Trump’s actions could drive the Earth over the edge, causing it to resemble Venus, with temperatures of 250 degrees and sulphuric acid showering down.”
Prof. Hawking, on the other hand, was concerned about the hazards that breakthroughs in artificial intelligence could bring (AI).
“The creation of full artificial intelligence could herald the end of the human race,” he remarked in 2014.
Prof. Hawking believed that sophisticated forms of machine intelligence could eventually outperform humans in terms of strength and intelligence.
However, in 2010, he made one of his most odd assertions, claiming that aliens may pillage Earth’s resources.
“If aliens visit us, the outcome will be similar to what happened when Columbus landed in America, which did not go well for the Native Americans,” he stated.
“All we have to do is look at ourselves to realize how intelligent life could evolve into something we wouldn’t want.” Brinkwire Summary News”.
