According to a petition with 100,000 signatures, Jeff Bezos should not be permitted to return to Earth.
If a satirical petition with more than 100,000 signatures has anything to do with it, Jeff Bezos’ return to Earth could be denied when he travels to space next month.
On July 20, Jeff Bezos will launch one of his Blue Origin rockets into orbit. However, Mr. Bezos’ re-entry onto Earth has been denied by an online petition. The petition currently has over 115,000 signatures from netizens who have used the Change.org platform to criticize how the Amazon founder has spent his fortune.
According to Forbes, Mr. Bezos is the world’s richest individual, with a fortune of $204 billion (£146 billion).
He has, however, been chastised for how he has exploited his good riches.
According to political commentator Earl Ofari Hutchinson, Mr. Bezos has given away only 1% of his fortune.
This is significantly less than other billionaires, such as Bill Gates, who has given away tens of billions through his Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Even Donald Trump, the former president, has given away 3% of his money.
MacKenzie Scott, Mr. Bezos’ ex-wife, has pledged to give away nearly all of the $38 billion she earned in a divorce deal, the most recent being a $2.7 billion commitment to 286 nonprofits.
Mr. Bezos has also been chastised for how his Amazon employees were treated throughout his tenure.
“Billionaires should not exist…on Earth, or in space, but if they choose the latter, they should stay there,” according to the petition against Mr Bezos’ return to Earth.
A similar petition, which has received over 22,000 signatures, has gone even further.
“Jeff Bezos is actually Lex Luthor, masquerading as the supposed proprietor of a tremendously successful online retail store,” it claimed, apparently half-jokingly.
“However, he’s a ruthless ruler hellbent on global dominance. This is something we’ve known for a long time.”
“He’s also in bed with flat earth skeptics; that’s the only way they’ll let him leave the atmosphere,” it continued.
“In the meantime, our government stands by and does nothing.
“This could be our final opportunity before the 5G microchips are enabled and a mass takeover occurs.”
Mr. Bezos, his brother Mark, and other paying passengers will fly on July 20. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
