According to sources in the State Duma, a new bill set to be introduced later this year will require American tech giants like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, as well as domestically produced networks like VK, to allow users to disable algorithms that create specialized, individual content.

The recommendations are claimed to have been proposed by members of the ruling United Russia party in response to new worries about how recommended content could increase the likelihood of social tensions and provocations.
